All trees have a passport on Sint-Paulus Kortrijk

students become citizen scientists

"We will follow the trees in all seasons and add the necessary information and photos per tree."

From classic gray playground to climate playground

On the playground of the Sint-Paulusschool in Kortrijk, the children come into contact with nature again. Playing and learning are paramount. Thanks to a well-aimed and sustainable process, the city school has succeeded in transforming its concrete surface into a stimulating play and learning landscape where play nature, a good dose of play impulses and biodiversity have their got a place. Playing and learning go hand in hand. The children can play their own game with nature, and that can be adventurous and in complete freedom. Lessons now take place even more in the open air; discovering and learning in nature becomes a must.

All 31 trees received a unique QR code

One of the elements of the climate playground are the 31 newly planted trees. They all received a Plantsoon label. By scanning the QR code hanging on the trees, you get more information about the tree species, leaves and fruits. In addition, they can add photos to track the evolution of each tree. In this way, the students can help map the growth of the trees, they learn more about the biodiversity in their environment and can therefore conduct research in their own school as citizen scientists.
